Fighter jets hit Al Shabaab bases in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A suspected U.S drone carried out an air strike against al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in central Somalia, causing untold number of casualty.

The strike was conducted Luq Jelow area, some 25km south of Baladweyne town, the provincial capital of Hiran region, residents said.

The fighter jets also fired missiles at Bacyar area held by Al Shabaab group in the region.

Mohamed Ahmed, Beledweyne commissioner told media that fighter jets had targeted Al Shabaab controlled areas in the region.

He declined to comment on the casualties.

It is unclear who carried out the air strike in Somalia.

The attack comes a day after Ethiopian military claimed to have killed 34 Al Shabaab militants in an airstrike carried out in Burhakaba town.
