Somalia’s federal government has deployed hundreds of Turkish-trained police forces to the Southwest state, sources say, escalating tensions with leaders in Baidoa.
The troops were flown from Mogadishu to the coastal city of Barawe, where they are expected to reinforce security and begin operations.
Two sources said the deployment marks the first phase of a broader mobilization, with additional forces planned and more troops sent soon.
