
ASMARA – A delegation led by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has arrived in the capital Asmara on Sunday at the start of a meeting to repair relations between the neighbors.
PM Abiy and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Eritrea’s President Isaias Afwerki in the capital, Abiy’s chief of staff, Fitsum Arega said.
Abiy’s visit offers a spectacular opportunity to decidedly move forward peace for the good of the two countries, according to Arega.
Fitsum Arega tweeted that Ethiopian PM Abiy was going to hold talks with Eritrean to normalize relations.
The two leaders will discuss how to mend fences,” Ethiopian foreign ministry spokesman Meles Alem said.
It is first that Ethiopian delegation arrived in the capital Asmara after 20 years of strained relations.
