MOGADISHU, Somalia – Ethiopian military fighter jets carried out an air strike against al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants near Baidoa town.
Baidoa, a town lies about 250km southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu.
The strike was carried out on Thursday at Al Shabaab controlled village of Bur-Ayle near Baidoa town, residents said.
It is unclear how many militants were killed or injured in the bombing.
The attack comes a week after Al Shabaab claimed to have carried out deadly ambush attack on Ethiopian military convoy near Burhakaba town.
The group says it killed dozens of Ethiopian soldiers serving under African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia.
But, the Ethiopian military denies the group’s claims, saying its forces in Somalia would lunch joint military offensive to flush out the al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
The armed group Al Shabaab has been fighting for more than ten years to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
