Foreign Minister, Dr. Tedros Adhanom received UN Special Representative to Somalia, Nicholas Kay on Monday for discussions focused on current political and military developments in Somalia.
Mr. Kay welcomed the continuing efforts of Ethiopia to bring peace and stability in Somalia and in the Horn of Africa. He noted particularly the contributions of the Ethiopian troops who recently joined AMISOM and their contributions to the recent successive military victories over Al-Shabaab forces in central Somalia, in AMISOM sectors three and four areas.
Dr. Tedros underlined Ethiopia’s commitment to support efforts to bring lasting peace and stability in Somalia. He said Ethiopia would continue to work closely with the Federal Government of Somalia, the UN, AU, IGAD and other international partners to remove the threat of Al-Shabaab from the political scene and in efforts to establish a solid political order within the country.
He underlined the need for increased support from the UN and the international community to put in place civilian administrations and humanitarian support in the newly liberated areas; and he reaffirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering support in the effort to support areas recently freed from Al-Shabaab’s control.
