Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received a reassuring message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi a week after surviving an assassination attempt.
The attack, which was a land mine explosion claimed by Al Shabab, targeted President Mohamud’s convoy near the presidential palace in Mogadishu on March 18.
Despite the president being unharmed, the blast killed four nearby civilians, including a journalist from Radio Risaale, were killed and several others.
President El-Sisi expressed solidarity with President Mohamud, condemned the attack, and reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Somalia.
He also offered condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
President Mohamud thanked El-Sisi for his solidarity. He also praised their friendship during tough times.
The exchange shows the ties between Somalia and Egypt with a commitment to combat violence and ensure peace.
