Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdullahi Omar met Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Aswan to discuss Egypt’s planned troop deployment under the AUSSOM mission.
Abdelatty welcomed progress on sending Egyptian forces to Somalia, calling it a key step toward deeper security cooperation and stability in the Horn of Africa.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s peace efforts and expressed hopes that procedures for deploying troops would be finalized in the coming weeks.
He also urged securing sustainable international funding for the mission and emphasized the importance of collective global action for stability.
Both countries discussed boosting ties in trade, investment, and healthcare, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening regional cooperation against terrorism and extremism.
