Egypt, Israel at Odds Over Somalia

Read Time:27 Second

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Rising tensions between Egypt and Israel could lead to military confrontation in Somalia, according to an assessment published by Natsiv Net.

The report, covering developments through February 2026, said rivalry between Cairo and Tel Aviv is escalating amid growing involvement in Somalia.

Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as independent on Dec. 26, 2025, marked a turning point, becoming the first country to recognize the breakaway region.

Cairo viewed the recognition as a violation of Somali sovereignty and an Israeli attempt to secure a strategic foothold along the Red Sea.
