Djibouti at Pan Arab women’s youth tourney semis
After a hotly-challenged match against Lebanon, Djiboutian women’s U 17 national team has qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing Pan Arab women’s youth tournament on Tuesday.
Although they suffered from an early-minute goal, the Djiboutians were not shocked, but instead continued to play as normal trying to compensate for the goal, but were unable as the first half of the match ended in 1-0 with Lebanon in the lead.
Around the 50th minute of the second half, Lebanon’s side happened to strengthen their lead after scoring their second goal, but Kafiya Abdirahman scored the first goal for her side, while Djibouti’s history writer, Mazer Fouad Abdallah made the equalizer goal for her country in the 87th minute of the match which finally ended in 2-2 equality.
With this result Djibouti is sitting in the semi-finals of the competition waiting to clash with who qualifies either Palestine or Algeria after their match scheduled for 19th of February.
In conversation with CECAFA Media, Djibouti women’s national team coach, Fatouma Mussa Dirieh, said that Lebanon were a bit stronger than Qatar, but her girls were committed to realising their position in the semi-finals as they actually did.
“Our girls showed high sprit and did professional exhibition and I am hopeful they will end up in good results in the matches to come” Djibouti Football federation president Souleiman Hassan Waberi told CECAFA Media when reached for comment on his hopes.
