Deadly US strike kills 3 IS fighters in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The US military says it has killed 3 Islamic State fighters in a drone strike carried out in the region in Somalia.

The strike was conducted on October 25, 2019 in Golis mountains of Puntland region, said in a statement released by U.S. Africa Command.

The Command said three Islamic State militants were killed in the bombing.

The Golis hills are a known area for Islamic State activity.

“Precision airstrikes such as these support Somali security forces efforts to protect the Somali people from terrorists and support long-term security in the region”, it said.

It says no civilians were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike.

The U.S. Africa Command says it will continue to work with Somalia to weaken Islamist groups such as Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group and Islamic State.
