Deadly clash at UAE military base kills 2 soldiers in Somalia
MOGADISHU – Two soldiers have been killed and 8 others got injuries in deadly exchanges of gunfire in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
The clash flared up after members of UAE-trained Somali forces exchange gunfire with another unit from the national forces, a witness, who asked to be anonymous said.
He says the fighting lasted for hours inside the base, leaving at least 2 soldiers dead.
“I saw some soldiers wearing vests and shorts who were escaping while the fighting continues. Two soldiers died in the confrontation”, he said.
The victims of the clash were immediately rushed into hospital.
Somali army chief, Gen. Abdiweli Gorod says number of soldiers had been arrested after attempting to remove military items from military training centre formerly run by the UAE.
Gen. Gorod declined to comment on the casualty.
The conflict comes three days after Somali government took-over the facility from United Arab Emirates.
