Deadly bomb, gun attack hit Ethiopian forces in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Deadly bomb-and-gun-attack targeted an Ethiopian troops’ armored personnel carrier near Hudur, a town lies about 400km southwest of Mogadishu.

The attack took place on Friday when heavily armed Al Shabaab fighters launched an ambush attack on armed vehicle carrying Ethiopian forces under African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia.

The surprise assault sparked a fierce fighting between the militants and African Union from Ethiopia soldiers, causing untold number of casualties, a witness, who asked to be anonymous, said.

He says Friday’s attack started with roadside bomb explosions ripped through military convoy carrying Ethiopian soldiers while travelling into Buur dhuhul area near the town.

“Heavy weaponries can be heard, shortly after explosions. I don’t know the exact number of casualty resulted in the attack”, he said.

Several soldiers were reportedly killed in the attack, according to sources.

Neither African Union mission nor Al Shabaab has commented on Friday attack.
