Deadly assault hits KDF base in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Heavy fighting broke out between Kenyan army forces and al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants in south of Somalia.

The fighting flared up when heavily armed militants launched an attack on Kenyan troops’ base in Qoqani town, some 70km from Kenyan border along Somalia.

Qoqani base runs by Kenyan troops serving under African Union mission known as AMISOM.

Somali armed group claimed to have carried out an ambush attack on the KDF base in the town, inflicting heavy casualties on the soldiers.

There was no immediate comment from Kenyan military over the claims yet.
