Deadly air raid hits Al Shabaab in Somalia
MOGADISHU, Somalia – A suspected U.S. drone has carried out an air strike against al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in central Somalia’s Hiran region.
The strike was conducted in Galhamure, Astan and other rebel held areas in the region, a Somali military official said on condition of anonymity, because he was unauthorized to speak on the media.
He says scores of militants were killed.
But, it is too early to say the exact figure of casualty resulted in the bombing.
Last week, U.S. military says it had killed 55 al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab fighters in two separate air raids in the region.
The U.S. military has increased its air strikes against Al Shabaab, since President Trump took office in 2017.
The attack comes after Al Shabaab claimed to have carried out bomb and gun attack on restaurant and hotel in Somali capital, Mogadishu, leaving 29 people dead.
