The Sweden government has donated 5.2 million Dollars to the government of Kenya to implement Kenya integrated management information system program which is aimed to address food and nutrition security in Kenya.
The program will give support to farmers by getting access to transparent information on the weather forecast and which best crops to grow and help the government in evidence based way like where to send fertilizer and make it efficient and improve profitability.
According to the Cabinet Secretary, ministry of agriculture, Mithika Linturi, the program will be a one stop shop platform which is aimed to register all farmers across the country and collect data which can be developed through the ministry of agriculture and county governments.
Through this program the CS said the government will be able to get an estimation on which farmers can produce what specific type of food and therefore the government will be able to plan. “We want to make agriculture cool by embracing technology, by projecting the weather forecast which will increase food production.” CS Mithika says.
The Sweden Ambassador Caroline Vicini said Kenyan agriculture requires a huge transformation and therefore she argued this integrated system will be of importance.
