China says belt and road cooperation is a long- term endeavor

MOGADISHU, Somalia — The second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was on Saturday concluded in the Chinese capital Beijing while leaders welcomed the efforts to further promote bilateral and international cooperation with China under the Belt and Road Initiatives.

President Xi said that delegates and representatives from over 100 countries participated in these events, and the leaders round-table held today was attended by leaders from 38 countries, as well as the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund, telling the theme of this forum was ‘Belt and Road Forum shaping a Shared a Brighter Future’.

“We spoke positively of the progress and value of Belt and Road Cooperation, we shared the view that Belt and Road Cooperation has created opportunities for common prosperity”, President Xi said.

He said that Belt and Road Cooperation is a long-term endeavor and a common cause of all its cooperation partners.

The leaders acknowledged that the transport infrastructure constitutes a foundation of connectivity, encourage the development of interoperability infrastructure development to enhance air, land and sea connectivity among countries according to a joint communiqué.

“We support international anti-corruption cooperation and work towards zero tolerance in anti-corruption, consistent with national laws and regulations. We call for more cooperation in line with our applicable respective obligations under international conventions and relevant bilateral treaties”, said in the communiqué.

The United Nations-General Secretary, Antonio Gutters said in the opening of this forum that in 2017, China invested 125 billion dollars in renewable energy, an increase of 25 percent over previous year.

“I am telling leaders, don’t come to the summits with speeches –come with credible ambitious plans”, He reminded.

However, high level delegation from Somalia headed by Minister of Planning, Gamal Mohamed Hassan and Minister of Commerce, Mohamed Abdi Hayer attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation that was going on here in Beijing from April 25 to 27,2019.
