MOGADISHU, Somalia – A livestock cargo ship from Bosaso, Somalia, was attacked off Yemen’s Red Sea coast, according to Marine Traffic and shipping sources.
The ship, Merinos Livestock, departed Bosaso on July 21 for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but came under fire near Hodeidah by armed men in a skiff.
Attackers reportedly ordered the vessel to divert to Mokha. The ship turned sharply and began sailing in that direction, raising security concerns among maritime analysts.
Analysts observed the ship was east of Hanish Islands, outside a safe corridor. This off-route navigation may have triggered the confrontation at sea.
The vessel, owned by IMS Greece Co. and flagged under Comoros, reported no injuries or damage, showing growing Red Sea threats amid Yemeni unrest.
