Mareeg.com-MOGADISHU – US military says it has carried out two new air strikes against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in Somalia, killing at least six militants.
The strikes were conducted on November 21, 2018 near Harardhere town, killing six militants, according to a statement by US Africom Command.
“We currently assess the first airstrike killed six (6) al-Shabaab militants”, the statement said.
US military said the second airstrike destroyed a weapons cache belonging to Al Shabaab.
“We currently assess these airstrikes did not injure or kill any civilians”, the Africom said.
The US military added that the precision airstrikes were conducted in coordination with and in support of the Federal Government of Somalia as it continues to degrade al-Shabaab.
“We believe that airstrikes can reduce al-Shabaab’s ability to plot future attacks, disrupt its leadership networks, and degrade its freedom of maneuver within the region”.
The strike becomes 5th airstrike in 3 days in the same area where US military claimed to have killed a total of 50 militants belonging to Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
