Heavily armed Al Shabab attackers have stormed a hotel in Baladweyne, Hiran region, located about 335km from the capital, Mogadishu.
Tuesday’s attack began with explosions, followed by heavy gunfire as attackers fought their way into the building.
Witnesses say the hotel, frequented by military officials and local elders, was hosting a meeting to mobilize Ma’awisley fighters against Al Shabaab.
