At least three Kenyan soldiers were killed and seven injured in a roadside bomb attack on their vehicle during a patrol in eastern Lamu County near the border with Somalia.
Kenyan Defence Forces Chief Charles Muriu Kahariri confirmed the incident occurred on the Kiunga-Sankuri road.
Kahariri said the wounded soldiers are receiving treatment and investigations are underway.
Kenya’s north east region has seen frequent attacks by Al-Shabaab, an al Qaeda-linked group, battling in Somalia.
The group also vowed to continues attacks in Kenya untill Nairobi withdraws its soldiers serving as African Union peacekeepers in Somalia.
Driven out of Mogadishu in 2011, the group still carries out deadly attacks on military bases, despite military oprations and air raids in south and central Somalia.
