An African Union military helicopter has crashed at Mogadishu airport after departing the U.S.-operated Baledogle airfield, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) said the crash occurred near the Afisiyoni section of the airport, prompting emergency response teams.
SCAA said eight people were on board the helicopter at the time of the crash and their condition remains unclear.
Rescue operations are underway as emergency crews work to extinguish flames.
The cause of the crash is not yet known. Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft debris to determine what went wrong.
