ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The African Union Peace and Security Council on Thursday reaffirmed Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejecting Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.
In a statement issued after a ministerial-level meeting in Addis Ababa, the council strongly condemned the move and called for its immediate revocation.
The council said no actor has the authority or legal standing to alter the territorial integrity of any African Union member state, adding that any such declaration is null and void under international law.
