Al Shabab, an al Qaeda-linked group, has condemned Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s one-day visit Mogadishu on Thursday.
Ethiopia’s ambition to seize Somali land and waters has persisted through many regimes, from Solomon’s rule to the current leadership.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed seeks to control Somali coastlines with the help of Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Al-Shabab rejected Ethiopia’s presence in Somalia, vowing to protect Somali territory, honor, and resources from foreign occupation.
“We fired mortar rounds at Mogadishu’s airport and attacked Bal’ad town to prevent any celebration for Abiy Ahmed and his visit”, they said.
They also called on Somalis to reject President Mohamud and his government for aiding Ethiopia’s expansion in the region.
“We once defeated Ethiopia in jihad and we must continue resisting protecting Somalia”, the group said.
Al-Shabaab urges Muslims in East Africa, especially Somalis, to unite and fight Ethiopian expansion.
