Al Shabaab says military official killed in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU – Somali militant Islamist group Al Shabaab claimed to have shot and killed a senior military official in the capital, Mogadishu.
The deceased, whose name identified as Mouse Aboukar Mohamed was gunned down by hooded men armed with pistols in Hodan district of Mogadishu, said in a statement released by the group.
The group says Mohamed has been working with US military based in Baledogle about 100km (60 miles) west of the capital Mogadishu.
The group says the victim was helping US forces’ drone to hit key Al Shabaab targets in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia.
There was no immediate comment from the Somali military over the claims.
The militant group still continues targeting government officials and soldiers in Mogadishu since it was forced out of the city in 2011.
