Al Shabaab says 12 soldiers killed in Somalia attack

MOGADISHU – The Islamist militant group al-Shabab says it has killed at least 12 government soldiers in ambush attack in town about 90 km (55 miles) northwest of the capital, Mogadishu
The attack started with roadside bomb explosion targeted an armored personnel carrier with Somali military soldiers while on patrol in Wanlaweyne town.
The explosion followed by ambush attack carried out by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab, said in a statement aired by radio Andulus, an Al Shabaab mouthpiece.
The group claims to have killed at least 12 soldiers in the surprise attack.
Two senior Somali military officials identified as Hussein Hosh and Qar Madow were reportedly among those who were killed in the attack.
Somali military officials were unavailable to reach on the phone for comments on the latest claims made by Al Shabaab.
Al Shabaab group has been driven out of many urban areas since 2011 following joint military offensives carried out by African Union forces and Somali National Army forces.
