Somalia’s intelligence agency NISA says two targeted airstrikes killed 15 Al-Shabaab militants near the border of Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
The airstrikes, supported by international partners, were carried out at Gayacad junction near Mabaax area in Hiiraan during a coordinated nighttime counter-terror operation.
NISA confirmed the militants killed included commanders and fighters attempting to regroup and reinforce trapped Al-Shabaab units in central Somalia.
Five other militants were critically wounded in the strikes, which disrupted a reinforcement convoy from Aadan Yabaal and Ceel Cali Axmed areas.
The airstrikes specifically targeted groups mobilizing from Middle Shabelle to reach militants surrounded by government forces in Hiiraan region.
Though militants tried to hide in remote bushland, precise targeting ensured both strikes successfully eliminated key threats with minimal risk to civilians.
The operation remains active as NISA continues pursuit of fleeing militants who escaped the strikes and are believed to be hiding nearby.
