Somali special forces successfully freed thirty hostages during an overnight operation near Afgooye, located about thirty kilometers south of Mogadishu.
The hostages included two women and had been held by al-Shabab fighters at a temporary detention site in Buula Madiina area.
During the raid, government troops killed three suspected militants and destroyed the militants’ improvised prison, along with an illegal court used for punishment.
The Defense Ministry stated, “Thirty hostages rescued, three militants neutralized, and both prison and unlawful court destroyed, demonstrating commitment to civilian safety across southern Somalia.”
All rescued individuals were transported to safety and are receiving medical care, support, and counseling, reinforcing the government’s efforts to restore security and stability regionally.
