MOGADISHU, Somalia – Roadside bomb explosion has ripped through an armored vehicle carrying UN-backed African Union peacekeeping soldiers in Somalia.
The explosion targeted an African Union armored personnel carrier in Burane area near Mahaday town, about 120 km north of Mogadishu.
Somali armed group Al Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for Saturday’s explosion.
The group says it has killed at least 3 Burundian soldiers serving under African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia.
There was no immediate comment from African Union mission over the claims.
The al Qaeda linked group has been fighting for more than ten years to topple the weak western backed government of Somalia.
