3 Kenyan soldiers abducted in attack by al Shabaab
MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali armed group al Shabaab has allegedly abducted three Kenyan police officers after an attack near the border town.
The militant group’s fighters took three soldiers alive during an attack in Konton area of Wajir, a town close to Kenyan border along Somalia.
Hooded militants also preached residents before pull out of Konton, according to a local resident who asked to be anonymous.
He says the militant group’s fighters also urged them (residents) to keep away from collaborating with Kenyan forces.
It is unclear whereabouts of kidnapped soldiers.
Kenyan police remain unavailable to comment on the abduction.
The attack comes Kenya’s commissioner of Lamu Joseph Kanyari said 4 al Shabaab fighters were killed after exploding a bomb explosive in which they were setting up the coastal town of Lamu.
Last week, the militant group claimed to have killed 5 Kenyan soldiers and wounded 20 others in an ambush attack carried out in Mandera town near Kenyan border along Somalia.
