1 dead as AU troops fire on protester in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The African Union peacekeeping troops have allegedly shot and killed a civilian protester and injured two others during violence riot in central Somalia.

The rally started on Tuesday as tens of people took streets to protest against newly appointed mayor for Bulu Burde town, local elders said.

They say the African Union troops killed a civilian and injured two others while attempting to stop the demonstration.

The victims were taken into hospital for medical treatment.

The African Union troops have also briefly detained three traditional elders.

There was no comment from AU mission in Somalia over the allegation.
