UAE calls for investigation over Maltese port manager murdered in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia— The United Arab Emirates has called on Somalia’s semi -autonomous state of Puntland to conduct an investigation over killing of head of DP-World operation manager.

Paul Anthony Formosa, serving as head of WP-World operation manager in Somalia was shot and killed by al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab gunmen in Bosaso town.

In a statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, UAE had strongly condemned the assassination.

The UAE called on Puntland to provide necessary protection for its staff members operating in the region.

It also offered condolences Formosa’s family, colleagues, and workers in the port.

The body of Paul Anthony Formosa, the Maltese port manager murdered in Somalia, will be repatriated by his employer, P&O Ports.

A Foreign Affairs Ministry spokeswoman said the Dubai government-owned company was making all arrangements and the ministry had offered its support.

The company could not be reached for comment.

Mr Formosa, 52, from Marsascala, was killed by two gunmen on Monday in the port of Bosaso in the semi-autonomous Puntland state.

According to media reports, the gunmen, who had disguised themselves as fishermen, were armed with pistols and shot Mr Formosa several times in the head.
