South Africa: Brawl erupts among South Africa’s lawmakers

A violent brawl broke out in South Africa’s parliament as guards exchanged punches with opposition lawmakers who had shouted down President Jacob Zuma as he tried to deliver his state of the nation address.

In chaotic scenes, about 30 guards dressed in white shirts forcibly ejected about 25 members of South Africa’s parliament.

Zuma was accused of being ‘rotten to the core’ on national television because of corruption allegations.

Lawmakers from the Economic Freedom Fighters tried to stop Zuma from addressing the chamber, repeatedly insulted the president and declared him unfit for office.
