Somali PM appoints cabinet with new humanitarian ministry

The prime minister nominated 27 ministers, 15 state ministers and also 20 deputy ministers is slightly bigger than previous Somali cabinet ministers led by former Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharma’arke.

The prime minister made the announcement in a ceremony organised at presidential palace (Villa Somalia) in Somali capital Mogadishu.

Most notable female minister of is Dr.Maryan Qasim, she held the newly created post of humanitarian affairs and disaster management.

Abdirahman Duale Beyle was named finance minister, having previously headed the foreign ministry, while Yusuf Garaad Omar, a former journalist and Somali ambassador to the United Nations, became foreign affairs chief.

Somali chose a new president last month and is trying to emerge from decades of civil war and defeat al-Qaeda-linked militants. It’s seeking to encourage the return of foreign investors.

“I want to tell Somali people in and outside of the country that we are announcing here our new cabinet ministers. Although Somali people facing huge drought and our people dying for hunger and diseases every day caused by the looming famine, I want to tell you that my government established Humanitarian and disaster management ministry” Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire said in cabinet announcement ceremony in Mogadishu.

He called Somali citizens and both parliament houses to support his new government ministers.

Somali parliament has now the mandate of approving or rejecting this new cabinet when the prime minister submits the list of new ministers.

On 22 February Somalis new president Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed Farmajo, appointed Hassan Ali Khaire as Somalis next prime minister.
