very popular Somali comedian dies in Mogadishu
Abdullah Emir Awkuku, one of the most popular Somali comedians, has died in
Mogadishu on Friday night after illness.
Except for one year in Yemen during 1990s, Aw Kuku remained in
Mogadishu, the Somali capital, where he entertained war wary people with
his remarkable wit and one-liners.
While in Yemen Aw Kuku was interviewed by some international Media about
Basatin, an Aden village with high number of Somalis of Yemeni origin.
“Basatin is the central command of global mosquito. It is here where
mosquitoes are given orders to go to Africa, Europe, Asia and any where in
the world,” he said.
Aw Kuku acted in many Somali plays.
His role in plays was eagerly promoted by both southern and northern
playwrights.
Few days ago Some of Somalia’s local televisions have serialized a comic
film in which Aw Kuku outwits one of his friends by pretending to be a man
from the hereafter.
Aw Kuku was the second artist of the older generation to die in
