AMISOM road accident kills a man in Mogadishu

Mareeg.com -Armoured vehicle belonging to the forces of the African peacekeeping (AMISOM) based in Mogadishu, killed a man in a tragic road traffic accident Tuesday in Taree-Biyaano, along Maka Al Mukarama in Mogadishu.

The man, identified as Saleh Nur Mohammed, was struck by one of the vehicles in the armoured convoy. The deceased was a taxi driver in Waberi neighborhood in Mogadishu. Somali police arrived the area after the accident and collected the body.

On AMISOM twitter account, AU special envoy SRCC Amb. Mahamet Saleh Anadif said AMISOM regrets the tragic accident, adding “Our thoughts are with the family and we are working with Somali authorities in its investigation.”

Meanwhile, responding to the incident Minister of Interior Abdullahi Godah Barre, said: “The government regrets all loss of life and has launched an investigation into this morning’s tragic incident on Maka al Mukarama. “I call on AMISOM to ensure they respect and adhere rigidly to the local laws and customs and work with the Somali Police and government in investigating this incident with utmost urgency.”
